Chrome Extension — Privacy Policy

    Site Shield does not operate any servers. It does not collect, store, or transmit your browsing history to its developer. All security data is processed locally in your browser or sent directly to Google.
  

1. Overview

This Privacy Policy explains how Site Shield ("the Extension"), a Chrome browser extension developed by Raul Leonardo, handles information when you use it. The Extension analyzes websites you visit for security risks including phishing, malware, missing HTTPS encryption, and advertising trackers.

2. Information the Extension Processes

URLs of visited websites

When you visit a website, the Extension reads its URL to perform two checks:

HTTPS check — performed entirely within your browser. The URL is not sent anywhere.
Safe Browsing check — the URL is sent directly from your browser to the Google Safe Browsing API to check for phishing and malware. This happens only if you have configured a Safe Browsing API key in the Extension settings. The developer of Site Shield never receives or sees these URLs.

Page resource URLs (tracker detection)

The Extension scans the HTML of each page you visit for embedded resource URLs (scripts, images, iframes) to identify known tracker domains. This scanning happens entirely within your browser. No page content or resource list is transmitted to any server.

Your API key

If you choose to configure a Google Safe Browsing API key, it is stored locally in your browser's extension storage (chrome.storage.local). It is never transmitted to the developer of Site Shield or any third party other than Google's Safe Browsing API.

3. Information NOT Collected

The developer does not collect your browsing history.
The developer does not receive your Safe Browsing API key.
The Extension does not create user accounts or profiles.
The Extension does not use cookies.
No analytics or telemetry is embedded in the Extension.
No data is sold or shared with advertisers.

4. Third-Party Services

Google Safe Browsing API

When you configure a Safe Browsing API key, URLs you visit are sent to Google's Safe Browsing servers for threat analysis. Google's handling of this data is governed by the Google Privacy Policy. You can review the Safe Browsing API terms for details on how Google processes lookup requests.

Safe Browsing analysis is optional. Without an API key, the Extension functions in HTTPS-only mode and does not contact Google's servers at all.

5. Local Data Storage

The Extension stores the following data locally in your browser using chrome.storage.local:

Your Safe Browsing API key (if configured)
Cached Safe Browsing results, keyed by URL, with a 1-hour expiration
Per-tab security analysis results (HTTPS status, threats, tracker list)

You can clear all Extension data at any time by going to chrome://extensions, finding Site Shield, and clicking "Clear site data" or removing the Extension.

6. Children's Privacy

Site Shield is not directed at children under the age of 13. The Extension does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

7. Changes to This Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated when new features are added. The "Last updated" date below will be revised accordingly. Continued use of the Extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
